Hi, need some advice here. my baby doesn't sleep much and he's only 4 weeks old. his typical sleep for a day is less than 10 hours. Is that normal? He sleeps for less than 3 hours in the day and won't sleep until like 11pm at night. He will wake up for night feeds at ard 2am and 5am. After 5am feed, he won't sleep. Is this unhealthy?
think you have the same problem as I do. My boy even as a newborn sleeps around 10 hours total in a day. If we are lucky he can accumulate 12 hours. If we are unlucky it can be less than 10 hours. When he was first born he only take catnaps... 20 mins to 30 mins. Now he is better... naps for 1 hour late morning and another hour in the afternoon. At night will sleep for about 8 hours.PD said that it is ok because he is happy and alert. She consoled us that intelligent babies don't have time to sleep cos they are curious about what's going around them. I hope she is speaking the truth and not just making us feel better
my baby used to be like that, catnaps, refuse to take naps at all then get real cranky around 8pm and cry for half to 1hour!! But after reading loads of books on baby sleeping, i realised it's very important to let them have enough sleep and i sort of regret not having read them earlier and help her solve her sleeping problem (she's still having sleeping problem now)Do try these 2 books which i find pretty useful, you might be able to get from the national library, search the nlb catelogue:(1) baby whisperer(2) Healthy sleep habits, happy childhope it helps!
