Hi, need some advice here. my baby doesn't sleep much and he's only 4 weeks old. his typical sleep for a day is less than 10 hours. Is that normal? He sleeps for less than 3 hours in the day and won't sleep until like 11pm at night. He will wake up for night feeds at ard 2am and 5am. After 5am feed, he won't sleep. Is this unhealthy?
think you have the same problem as I do. My boy even as a newborn sleeps around 10 hours total in a day. If we are lucky he can accumulate 12 hours. If we are unlucky it can be less than 10 hours. When he was first born he only take catnaps... 20 mins to 30 mins. Now he is better... naps for 1 hour late morning and another hour in the afternoon. At night will sleep for about 8 hours.PD said that it is ok because he is happy and alert. She consoled us that intelligent babies don't have time to sleep cos they are curious about what's going around them. I hope she is speaking the truth and not just making us feel better
my baby used to be like that, catnaps, refuse to take naps at all then get real cranky around 8pm and cry for half to 1hour!! But after reading loads of books on baby sleeping, i realised it's very important to let them have enough sleep and i sort of regret not having read them earlier and help her solve her sleeping problem (she's still having sleeping problem now)Do try these 2 books which i find pretty useful, you might be able to get from the national library, search the nlb catelogue:(1) baby whisperer(2) Healthy sleep habits, happy childhope it helps!

Pregnancies, Parenthood and Babies
There were cases of prolong usuage of birth control pills, will lead to inability or difficulty in having kids in the future. Recently, I heard my collegue's sis was one case and my relative was another case. So you have to becareful about that.
Hi joyce,Why not use the natural method. I think most clinics/polyclinics teaches natural family planning using rythm method. We did ours during our marriage preparation course. It's a very safe and you don't have to worry bout breakouts or infertility!!
I've tried Minulet and am currently on Gynera, has anyone out there tried Mercilon?Just wondering about whether I should just stick to Gynera..anyway, does anyone have anything negative to say about birth control pills?i tried out for a month and found that i really break out easily and hope that it doesn't interfere too much with my looks on my wedding daythank goodness, no weight gain so far

Home and Deco
was at HDB premium flat today. just saw an empty flat with some contractors doing planning inside. saw a yellow pipe for gas. but does anyone know how its being connected to the shower head and water mixers. does power gas fixed it or the contractor?
Storage heater are in the market for a long time. It is usually use for bathtub. The price depends on the brand and where you buy it. Be sure to ask wheather it includes the installation cost. Currently the famous brand are Rheem and ariston. Rheem is bulky looking but Ariston is more nicer looking. Also remember to ask your contractor to install 2 heater switches in both bathrooms for you or else it is quite tedious to switch on from common toilet and then run to another toilet to bathe. Lastly the disadvantage for storage heater is you need to wait 5-10 mins for the water to heat up b4 you bathe.
My contractor also recommend 707 but some salesman I talked to doesn't seems to have high opinion of them. I wonder why. They told me that 707 is manufacture in M'sia, that the quality of the coil etc is not as good as it used to be. So its quite difficult to decide who to believe.aeki, which model did you buy? Which shop did you buy it from? I came across this shop in Jalan Berseh that is selling both th Protek and Compact models for only $215. But I decide not to buy from them coz they were questioning my intent on buying the brnad. That cheese me off

Honeymoon And Travel
Anyone has stayed in this hotel before? Or any hotels in Bangkok Chinatown? I am planning a trip to BKK and would like to stay in Chinatown so need some advise here....tks.. =)
I have stayed at White Orchard during my trip to BKK in year 2004. Basically, it is located the main road. Cross opp it will be Sampeng Lane. If you walk further down alot of shops selling alot of things. Next to the hotel there are food stalls selling sharkfin. However, it is a quite old hotel. If you are not fussy, it is ok. Breakfast is quite ok. If can, dun stay in cabin room. Basically 4 walls not windows and it is really small. Hotel staff can't really speak good English.
I stayed there before. The rooms are very old and has a smell Fridge ain't working and there's nothing in it. very very basic budget hotel. Even the corridors seems eerie. Only the breakfast is not that bad

Wedding Planning Dreams with Disney
Scratch the surface of many brides-to-be and the dream is still there: the fairy tale, princess wedding. For anyone still inspired by this romantic classic, there's great news: Disney unveils a new line of bridal gowns this week in New York. Designer Kirstie Kelly offers 34 different designs inspired by classics like Sleeping Beauty and Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Should your wedding planning activity include a quick look?
With prices ranging from £755 and £1,500 ($1,100 to $3,500), there's a Disney dress for even the most budget-conscious bride. The collection hit runways in New York on April 16.
As one would expect from Disney, gowns were adorned with plenty of princess-like flourishes: splashes of ribbon, lace, detailed embroidering, pearls and crystals. Not to be overshadowed, the fabrics are equally romantic, utilizing organza, tulle and chiffon, amongst others.
Reportedly, the Ariel dresses, fashioned after The Little Mermaid, has a more-fitted and slinky design. The Belle collection is sophisticated, full of taffeta, satin and ribbons. Cinderella gowns feature crystals and intricate embroidered bead patterns. Jasmine character dresses have more of a looser feel with blends of satin and lace.
The dresses are designed to compliment Disney's already successful Fairy Tale Wedding enterprise. Couples can choose various Disney park locations and themes for their nuptials. Packages include such amenities as aisles centered around 800 rosebushes and an outdoor gazebo, carriage rides, and a "fairy Godplanner." Brides can even rest under the stars on their wedding eve at Cinderella's castle.
It's what Disney calls the ultimate "destination wedding." Some of the packages even include the company's cruise line and tropical resorts.
Right now they're selling the dream to approximately 2,000 couples each year. Should this line of designer dresses prove desirable for brides, the company plans to expand their "Princess" line into more lifestyle areas.

Geeky Wedding Cakes
This Super Mario Bros. wedding cake was entirely edible except for the Mario and Princess on top. "It even tasted good," said the Flickr user who put it up. "It was seriously the coolest wedding cake I have ever seen."
The Star Wars Wedding cakes are in my humble opinion, the highest pinnacle of the geeky wedding cake pyramid. If you check out the album on Flickr, you will see the couple went all out with a full Star Wars theme - Jedi and all.

Wedding Jewellery
Sighzz... Who get 925 silver for wedding? Esp if ur PIL r well-to-do type? Does that mean they dun welcome this DIL to be married into the family hence gave such a SDJ?? Anyway I have told my husband upfront that if they r going to give me silver, I won't accept.. I rather dun wan the gift than to wear silver back to show to my relatives..
Hi jazol, I agree that SDJ is not to show off.. but SDJ is a sign of how "loved" a DIL is by ILs.. I think, if cannot afford yellow gold, then buy jade or white gold. I think buying silver is a bit "too much". Maybe don't buy 4 items, but instead buy 1 white gold item if yellow gold is really so expensive... In my case, my fiance actually gives $1k every month to his parents. He has been doing this for the past 3 years since he started work.. His parents say they will be saving the $ for our GDL and our SDJ, so I don't feel the pinch for my ILs, nor my fiance... cos ILs have also said the rest of the $ (after spending on GDL and SDJ), will form part of the retirement $ for them. I feel my fiance is very generous with his allowance to his parents (given that he has 2 other siblings who are already working). So if ILs offer generous budget for my SDJ, I might as well accept it graciously. If not, it will form my ILs retirement $. And my fiance will continue to give his parents $1k every month until they die...so no fear they have no retirement $ considering they both have jobs, a car and a 5-room HDB flat.
Cactus, Wow yr Fiancee is indeed generous to his parents which I think is great.Yes I agree SDJ is a yi shi and not necessarily for show.. Alicia, I dont think yr PIL welcome and love u any less based on their cursory attention to the type of SDJ. So please dont feel bad about yrself or towards them. In fact if you read the previous threads on this, there are many PIL who are pretty "modern" and wish to do away with such formalities. Initially my MIL too didnt want to bother with this but my mom insisted as she is a stickler of tradition . :p You have 5 months to take yr time and get the SDJ- Maybe white gold or lesser stuffs. I am only going to get mine very close to the wedding as my Fiancee will be back by then from overseas. Hope this help, dont fret and cheer up
Yup... My fiance is filial to his parents and I'm actually trying to learn to from him to be filial to my own parents. Actually, just to share, I won't be taking all 4 items for the SDJ cos I'm not teochew and neither is my fiance. Only my FMIL is teochew - that's why she offered to buy SDJ for me. I'll probably just buy a bracelet and a necklace and I'll be using only 80% of the budget my FMIL gives me. Sometimes, it's the gal's family which has expectations. So although the guy's side may be modern, a cheap SDJ or jewelry may be seen as loss of face for the gal's family, esp if the gal is teochew or if the gal's mom is teochew, or if the gal is the only daughter in her family, or even the only child.
Hi, actually alot of things depend on the bride (the SDJ - usually should consist a pair of earrings, a necklace, a bracelet or a bangle and a ring my sis received the above - 4 pcs of gold my sis-in-law received 4 pcs of white gold with diamond (my mother very generous) as for myself i received a diamond bracelet (i got to chose the bangle myself) and MIl still asked me whether i want diamond earrings (i told her no need) coz i have bought a pair for myself - in the end she still buys a gold bracelet for me for the tea ceremony its a gesture of gold luck - guess we should be happy lah

I cannot decide on my wedding colors or flowers! I NEED HELP!
I cannot decide on my wedding colors or flowers. I have no eye for design and I cannot decide what looks good together. I am getting married in May 2008 on the beach and then having a reception when we return home to Minnesota. I would like a beach theme and I know I want some kind of blue for one color, but I don't know what to match with it. I also know that I want white Calla Lillies as one of my flowers but I am not sure what to match with it. I want to carry the beach theme to my reception as well. Any ideas? Thanks
Contact me through my website and I can send you lots of blue beach theme pictures. Just blue and white would be beautiful, and green will be present anyhow in flowers and greenery. But there are many other colors that you can add if you want an accent--lavenders, yellows, pinks, greens, sand tones, red, orange--all would look nice.
If you google images of beach weddings, the colors you notice in all the pictures are that beautiful ocean blue color and the soft sand color. Plus, almost all of the grooms are in all white. I think if you pick a shade of blue you like (or really a variety of blues since the ocean isn't just one color) and a cream color, you will have a very beautiful, classic beach feel. You could use your white calla lillies and some cream colored ones as well, mix them together in some of your arrangements.
I think if you pick Beachy colors and carry slight elements of the beach into your decorations, you'll achieve a very classy beach theme without going over the top. For centerpieces you could use large round vases, pour sand in the bottom, then fill them with water (give them plenty of time to settle so you don't have murky water, then add a fish or two, and some tealights sitting around the base, you could have very beautiful centerpieces.
These would be beautiful and fun too.
My first thought is blue, white, and aqua. You could carry white callas with a colorful handtied. I definatley think you could do white callas for centerpieces, maybe in tall vases with jsut a few callas. You could even add blue rocks in the vase. Also, you could put sea shells all over your tables. There are lots of ways to incorporate the beach into your reception. Heres some pictures!
